The proposals for Guildhall Place South were approved by Nottingham City Council on 19 August 2020. Work is proposed to commence before the end of 2020 with the hotel due for completion in 2022.
Guildhall Place North planning application will be submitted in Spring of 2021 with an anticipated planning approval in Summer 2021 with the scheme being delivered for the start of the 2024/25 academic year.
A public consultation of the proposals for Guildhall Place South was held on 2 December 2019. A public consultation on the proposals for Guildhall Place North will be held in the spring of 2021 before the planning application is submitted.
The Council appropriated this area of Council land for planning purposes on 25 June 2018 (and confirmed that decision on – 5 November 2020 ) in order to facilitate the development proposals. The process of appropriation facilitates the engagement (in due course) of the provisions of s203 of the Housing and Planning Act 2016. The appropriation and engagement of s203 will prevent any third parties (including adjoining or neighbouring landowners and occupiers) who benefit from adverse rights over the land (including any rights of light claims) from otherwise holding up progress of the development. The appropriation process has the effect of authorising the interference with those interests or rights, permitting the development (an important economic benefit for Nottingham) to proceed unhindered. This does not preclude valid statutory claims being made in respect of affected rights.
